I'm a Big Girl Now

Well, at least I remember that when I got my rigid gas permeable contact lenses that they were sort of for kids.  Most people think it is the weirdest thing - have never heard of someone sticking an uncomfortable little disc of plastic on their eyeball.  Kids usually think it is cool - like when Maddie and Mia sit on the couch with me reading a book and they can see the contact floating on my eye. So after a tortuous year with my lenses, many days in glasses because of irritation, and eye allergies that were bothersome, I saw my eye doc and asked for some relief.  About five or so years ago, I tried to make the soft lenses switch, and it was terrible, but Doc Fisher said they have made so many improvements in lenses.  So two weeks ago I walked out of the office squinting (because of dilation) and eager to try sticking the soft month-long disposable lenses onto my eyeball.  I was back a week later hoping the headaches were from the prescription and not a case of H1N1, and to my relief, the power was too strong.  So now after another week, my eyeballs feel great!  Plus I have to use an allergy eye drop first thing in the morning, but it doesn't burn like the drops of years past.  So I wear soft lenses like the other grown-ups!  I love you, little RGP lenses!  You were good to me for over a decade - comfortable as any soft lens, but now...I'm loving a new lens.
