This morning came early. The gray light shining in through the bedroom window woke me around 5:30 am. I tried to sleep, but the light kept nagging me to get up. So I did.
I thought about reading, about making a big breakfast, about going to work early, and finally about going for a walk. Maybe if I'd gone for the walk the night before, I'd have slept until my alarm woke me and hour and a half later. I pulled on my clothes and laced up my shoes quietly, as the bear in bed slumbered on, and penned a note in case he should worry why I disappeared.
Slipping into the cool morning air, I realized it wasn't just foggy, but a fine mist was coming down. I couldn't see the mesa or the mountains. I wasn't sure if it would burn off with the sunrise, but the moisture felt pleasant. The birds that had been noisily chirping and calling while I tried to sleep scolded me as I passed up the road. The neighbors' dog barked; a stray cat paused for invisibility, though white fur stands out in the lush green of a misty morning. As I climbed to the end of the road, I lost sight of our sleeping town under the blanket of fog. It felt good to be moving.
At the end of the road, I changed directions, letting gravity pull me back home as I picked up my pace. My face was soon slick with mist, droplets forming on my eyelashes. None of the usual parched feeling from jogging back down the road today. All the way home the rabbits took notice of me and ran into my path and back away again.
Home came into view. I was damp with the wonderful morning rain. I still had enough time for a quick shower and nap before my alarm.
The overcast skies persist, and I feel like a kid again.

Boo hoo hoo
At my dentist appointment this afternoon, I was told I need my first filling.
What cracked me up was what the doctor did after he came in and confirmed what the hygienist suspected. He agreed it was a "sticky" spot and then asked me what we should do. Having had my mouth gaping wide while he poked and prodded at my teeth, I was looking down at my feet away from the head lamp. His question surprised me, which may have registered on my face. I looked up at the hygienist and then at him and reminded him I am not a dentist and not qualified to make recommendations about what should be done for the health of my teeth. At least I thought that was why I went to the dentist every six months for cleaning and check up. His response, knowing that I don't have any cavities or fillings, was that maybe I wanted to wait and see what happens. Again, not being a dentist, I assumed that once a problem presented itself, it didn't go away. The benefit of waiting is to . . . ? ?
As it turns out, I head back in three weeks for a filling, rather a "patch". It's so small it can hardly be called a filling. Whatever it is, I guess I should feel proud that I made it almost 37 years without having any dental work, but it's all down hill from here.

Busy Bees!
After a wonderful week of vacation, we landed hard - arriving home with only a couple hours left of May, we were ready to crash. A few little germs from a few little boys may have found their way home in us, so we started June off in recovery mode. But then after a week of moving slow, we turned it up to eleven!
The ceiling is finished - save for a little corner over the stairs I couldn't reach from the scaffolding. It looks good, and its completion means the floor can be installed.
The cabinets have been painted gunmetal gray, and the faces stripped. They're ready to be stained, and then the counter tops can be installed.
Tom did some more electrical work - installing switches and outlets. Plus he installed the glass block above the doorways.
Our bedroom has been painted a peaceful dusty blue, so it's now ready for flooring.
Tom started on tiling around our tub, and I got the walls painted.
We've been working a few weeknights, plus last weekend, to get all this done. After oiling the ceiling all day Saturday, I wasn't sure I'd be able to lift my arms over my head for a while. We were glad to take a couple nights off to celebrate Sara's birthday and to pray for rain (which we got), but I can't wait to see what we can accomplish this weekend!

VACATION!!!
We've been busy little bees the past couple weeks, but the week before...
We had the pleasure of joining my parents, siblings, niece, nephews, and one uncle for a week of vacation. Doing nothing - sleeping in - playing in the pool - playing on the beach - eating delicious food - playing games - watching movies.... It's the kind of life we all dream of getting used to, until reality comes hurtling back into our days.
The vacation was a special celebration of my parents 40th wedding anniversary.
